Dr Ruvinka Jayalath (Ruvi) is a specialist rheumatologist who values a gentle, patient-centred approach to medicine. After graduating from James Cook University in 2010, Ruvi spent over a decade working in regional and remote communities in North Queensland. These experiences shaped Ruvi’s understanding of the importance of accessible, compassionate healthcare, and the value of listening to each person’s story.

Ruvi had trained in Townsville University Hospital, Gold Coast University Hospital and Ipswich General Hospital. She also worked in rheumatology clinics in Mt Isa and Palm Island, alongside local teams to support people living with chronic conditions.

Ruvi has a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education from Flinders University in 2016. For several years, Ruvi served in Medical Education and guided multitudes of medical students and pre-vocational doctors in their early medical education and oversaw accreditation processes for junior doctors in Townsville University Hospital.

Now settled on the Gold Coast, Ruvi continues to practise medicine with a focus on holistic care. Outside of work, Ruvi enjoys spending time with family and taking walks along the beach, finding balance and perspective in the simple things.

Ruvi believes that good healthcare is built on trust, respect, and kindness—values that continue to guide daily practice.

Living with rheumatoid arthritis is a challenge, but I refuse to let it define me. I am more than my condition.
